Enrolment closes midnight, Thursday 18 June for the current, live cohort.

For parents who want to understand before they act

Handwriting Difficulties Rarely Come Down to Practice Alone.

Most handwriting difficulties have nothing to do with effort. The Handwriting Made Easy Foundation Series gives parents a clear, structured understanding of what sits underneath handwriting, so you can stop guessing and start supporting your child with confidence.

Reserve Your Place See What Is Covered

You have encouraged more practice.
You have bought new workbooks and tried different pencils.
You have sat beside them, reminded them, adjusted their grip.

And your child is genuinely trying. You can see it.

They concentrate hard. They grip the pencil tightly.
They lean over the page. They slow right down.

But writing still feels harder than it should.
Some days things go reasonably well.
Other days the very same task falls apart completely.

And you are left quietly wondering:

Is this about effort?
Is this about attention?
Or is something else going on?

Often, it is something else.
And when we understand what that is,
everything about how we support our child begins to make more sense.

This Series Is for You If...

  • Your child is between 5 and 10 years old and handwriting feels harder than expected.
  • A teacher has mentioned handwriting as a concern, or you have noticed it yourself.
  • You have tried more practice, worksheets, or different pencils and nothing has felt connected or consistent.
  • Your child is just starting to write and you want to get the foundations right from the beginning.
  • You are a proactive parent who wants to understand how to support your child's handwriting development before difficulties have a chance to take hold.
  • You want to understand what is happening before you decide what to do next.
  • You value clear, structured guidance over scattered tips and random strategies.

This series is for parents who want to understand what is happening, not just manage what they can see.

Session 2  ·  Thursday 25 June

Whole-Body Readiness

Writing starts long before the pencil touches the page

  • A simple setup checklist to use before every writing session

Session 4  ·  Thursday 2 July

What Happens When We Wait

And the path forward

  • Why handwriting difficulties do not tend to resolve on their own
  • How difficulties compound over time when left unaddressed
  • What you are really seeing when your child avoids, rushes, or shuts down
  • Why timing matters, without creating guilt
  • What a structured, step-by-step path forward looks like
Child writing at home
"When your child struggles with handwriting, it is not usually the handwriting itself that is the problem. Something underneath is making it hard. Once we understand what that is, we can do something useful with it."

A Note from Esmé

Hi, I am Esmé.

Esmé Le Roux, Paediatric Occupational Therapist

Over more than 25 years of working with children and families, I have sat with a lot of parents who were doing everything right and still could not work out why things were not getting easier.

They were not missing effort or commitment. They were missing a framework.

Without that framework, even the most attentive parent is left responding to what they can see, rather than what is actually driving it. That gap between trying hard and understanding clearly is exactly what the Foundation Series is designed to address.

I am a paediatric occupational therapist and the founder of Skill Sense OT. My clinical work is grounded in Ayres Sensory Integration, an advanced, evidence-informed framework for understanding how the foundational systems of development influence what we see on the surface.

Over more than two decades of practice, across schools, clinics, and telehealth, I have consistently seen the same pattern: when the underlying foundations are understood and supported in the right sequence, things begin to make sense. That pattern is the basis for everything inside the Foundation Series.

What Parents Say About Working with Esmé

"Lovely and easy to speak to. There is understanding, no judgement."

C, mother of Miss H

"The information you provided is easy to understand and it helps us feel like we are better equipped."

T, mother of Mr O

"You were always welcoming and highly supportive. You show care and consideration towards both the child and parents. There is clear communication, and you ensured parents were involved and understood."

K, mother of Mr L

"Esmé is brilliant. Always so kind, friendly, and approachable, and organised. I liked the holistic approach to the kids."

J, mother of Miss M

The Handwriting Made Easy Foundation Series is educational in nature and does not replace individual occupational therapy assessment. Where a child's needs require personalised clinical support, individual assessment is recommended.

Handwriting Made Easy: The 12-Week Program

Join the Priority List

It helps to know what this is not, so you arrive with the right expectations.

This Series Is Not...

  • A diagnostic tool or clinical assessment of your child.
  • A replacement for individual occupational therapy where that is needed.
  • A handwriting practice Program. That is what the 12-week Handwriting Made Easy Program is for.
  • A collection of random tips or worksheets.
  • A one-size-fits-all solution.

It is a clear, structured, evidence-informed starting point. Understanding comes first. Everything else follows from there.

Your Questions Answered

If your question is not here, you are welcome to get in touch at hello@skillsense.com.au

The Foundation Series is designed for parents of children aged approximately 5 to 10 years. It suits two groups equally well: parents of early writers who want to get the foundations right from the beginning, and parents whose child is already finding handwriting difficult and who want to understand why before deciding what to do next. It is also a strong starting point for proactive parents who simply want to understand how to support their child's handwriting development well. If you are unsure whether it is the right fit, please get in touch.
Yes. In fact, this is one of the best times to engage with this content. Understanding the foundations before formal handwriting begins means you can support your child's readiness in a natural, unhurried way. It also means you will know what to look for as handwriting instruction starts, and how to set things up well from the very beginning.
No. Handwriting difficulties can be addressed at any age, though earlier is generally easier. The foundations we cover in this series are relevant whether your child is six or ten. Understanding what is underneath the difficulty is always the right starting point, regardless of how long it has been going on. A structured approach is more important now, not less.
No. The Foundation Series is about understanding and practical setup, not structured practice. You do not need to purchase anything before attending. The activity suggestions included in your bonus resources draw on everyday household items and routines, so there is nothing to source or buy. The bonus resources are digital and provided as part of your enrolment.
Session replays are included with your enrolment and remain available for six months. This gives you plenty of time to catch up at a pace that suits your family. If you know in advance that you will miss a session, we recommend watching the replay before the following one so the content builds as intended.
No. The Foundation Series is a parent education series. It is not a diagnostic tool and it does not assess your child's handwriting or development. It gives parents a clear, structured framework for understanding what handwriting requires and what may be contributing to difficulty. Where a child's needs require individual clinical assessment, that is always recommended as a separate step.
Yes. The Foundation Series complements individual occupational therapy rather than replacing it. Many parents find that having a clearer understanding of the foundations helps them engage more effectively with their child's therapy. If you have any questions about whether this is appropriate alongside your child's current support, please speak with their therapist.
The Foundation Series is structured, sequential, and evidence-informed. Each session builds on the last. You are not picking up random tips and trying to connect them yourself. You are developing a framework for understanding handwriting from the ground up, guided by a paediatric occupational therapist with more than 25 years of clinical experience. You can also ask questions. That is something a video cannot offer.
The series will give you a clear framework for understanding what may be contributing to your child's difficulty. It will not diagnose or assess your child individually. What it will do is help you see the picture more clearly, ask better questions, and make more informed decisions about what to do next. For individual assessment and targeted support, a one-to-one occupational therapy appointment is the right step.
The Foundation Series is the starting point. For families who are ready to move from understanding into action, the next step is the 12-week Handwriting Made Easy Program. It picks up exactly where this series ends and guides parents through a structured, week-by-week approach to supporting their child's handwriting from body readiness through to fluent, automatic printing. Details are shared in Session 4.

If This Feels Like the Right Next Step

Many parents arrive here after months of noticing, wondering, and quietly carrying the question of what may be sitting underneath their child's difficulty with handwriting.

The Foundation Series was created for exactly that parent.

If having a clearer framework and a structured, guided way to understand your child's handwriting feels like what your family needs right now, you are warmly invited to join us.
